On the web, there is a lot of abuse, making it important to be careful what you read. In the future, artificial intelligence will be used to moderate toxic online activity.
Machine learning helped Google maintain the accuracy and relevance of reviews on Google Maps, with not a small role played by the service’s reviews.
While it has been revealed by Google itself that the last year (2021) they blocked more than 100 million abusive edits with the help of AI, and these abusive edits mainly targeted the Google Business Profiles.
Moreover, over 7 million fake business profiles were also removed by Google. Artificial intelligence (AI) accounted for a majority of the takedowns, while more than 630,000 were based on user reporting.
Nearly 8 million fraudulent attempts to claim a company profile and over 12 million attempts to create fake profiles were foiled by Google.
Apart from abusive practices, fake reviews have been used more and more often on Google Maps to negatively affect the local businesses.
That’s why a total of 95 million reviews were seized by Google, and 60,000 of them had some connection to COVID-19. Additionally, Google was forced to close more than 1 million accounts due to the same policy violation.
Even, with help of AI Google also removed more than 190 million low-quality photos and 5 million low-quality videos that violated the content policies of Google.
Although Google Maps has become increasingly sophisticated in machine learning, but, it’s still good to know that human eyes remain part of the process.
